Post post for Week 8: #19

Now I feel like a real goose. I didn't realize that the first Week 8: #19 posted. So I now have 2 of them.

Go figure.

Week 8: # 19 Web-based Applications: They're not just for desktops

I just finished browsing Zoho Writer and created a Story Time document in it. I had thought that I would just copy and paste it into the Story Time Database, but that didn't work. So, I copied bit-by-bit and pasted that into the database.

When I tried to Publish the Post, I got and error message as follows:
We're sorry, but we were unable to complete your request. When reporting this error to Blogger Support or on the Blogger Help Group, please:

Week 8: # 19 Web-based Applications: They're not just for desktops

I played around with the Zoho Writer. I created a Story Time document in it and thought I would just copy and paste into the storytime database. But, that didn't work, so I just typed it in myself. I was able to copy and paste pieces though. That did help.

I'm looking into the Zoho Planner and thinking about using that as my SRP planner.

Week 8: # 18 Social Networking: Making Friends in the Comfort of Your Own Home

After looking at several of the social networks, I felt most drawn to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Xanga.com. Facebook was neat because you could control how much of you, you wanted to expose. I know, I know, several of the others said the same thing, but I liked this one better.....except that it seemed to have a rather young crowd.
LinkedIn seemed to offer some really good professional networking options.
And, Xanga.com says it is a haven for bloggers. I found many interesting subjects on it. I just don't know when I would have the time to do all this blogging. Oh well, next time...

Week 7: # 17 Blog About Anything

Blog about anything that relates to technology!

Hmmmm....

I added a comment to a friend's blog yesterday. It was COOL! I had no idea it was so easy.

I think that a lot of this stuff that we are learning is really interesting. And there are times when ideas pop into my mind about how I would like to use it. I just don't seem to have the time to DEVELOP those ideas. Maybe after I have finished all of these 23 things, I will have a time to sit back, review, and use some of this new knowledge.

Week 7: # 16 So What's in a Wiki?

I had fun touring the Wiki world. I really enjoyed reading about other people's favorite books. I add quite a list of my own. I also looked at favorite animals. My Little Bit now graces its pages.
Isn't she sweet?
Hmmmmmmm!

Week 6: # 15 On Library 2.0 and Web 2.0

In "Away from the 'icebergs'" I liked the way they approached the 'icebergs' in our way. It definitely gives a new approach to the "collection" development. 2. We don't need to focus on teaching research skills, but we do need to focus on removing the barriers that are between the customer and the information. 3. We have to remember that we need to discover new ways to bring our services to the customer. So that we can be a part of their daily patterns of work and play.

Many of the other topics in Library 2.0 reminded me of the FUTURE of librarianship that we studied in school. We must be ever watching and planning for the future of the library.

Week 6: # 14 Getting not-so-technical With Technorati

Doing the Advanced search of "Learning 2.0" I got different results. In the Advanced Keyword - EXACT phrase "learning 2.0" there were no results. In Advanced keyword -All the Words- "learning AND 2.0" there were 12,727 results. Then, Keyword -At least one of the words- 340,589 results. I feel my best results were with the Tag Search. There I found only 294 posts. Even in the Blog Directory I received 827 blogs.
While exploring the popular blogs videos I found a really cute one called The Two Talking Cats. It is at
http://youtube.com/watch?v=z3UOudLH974

It was so cute! These two cats are sitting side by side and they just do their little mew - meow - mew mew -.......
Just like they are carrying on a real conversation.

Week 6: # 13 Tagging Makes the Web 2.0 World Go Round

I couldn't stomach the fuzzy video - kinda made me sick to my stomach. I couldn't find the Del.icio.us iHCPL tutorial. I did find where others have marked sites. I'm sure that the research potential is great as long as the sites that are marked by others are credible.

Week 5: #11 A Thing about LibraryThing

This seems like a really neat device. Especially for people who do a great deal of reading. I know a customer who might would enjoy the perks this program provides. I think I will recommend it to them.
You can see my LibraryThing at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/luv2lern71

Week 5: #10 Play Around with Image Generators

I have created my Avatar set in a fall picture. I think it is really neat. It shows up in my other blog. But, I just can't seem to get it over here.

Week 5: #12 The "Library" Elf Will Remind You!

I'm registered. I have responded to their e-mail.
This might be helpful for some people.

Week 4: #9 Finding Feeds

This assignment I went to the Topix site where I read more information about the RSS feeds and subscribed to Houston News. I also went to NYTimes.com and subscribed to NYT > Sunday Book Review. Both of there were very easy. In my estimation, Topix was the easiest.

Week 4: # 8 Make life "Really Simple" with RSS & a newsreader

This was really fun! I found some really interesting sites to check on. I have 7 feeds:
*A Phrase A Week
*Bloglines / News
*NYT Book Review
*The Shifted Librarian
*USA TODAY.com Books Top Stories
*Washington Post Book Reviews
*Yarn Tomato: Crochet Blog

I can learn a little, read a little, and crochet a little. And I do mean a little! But, I can make lists and set these aside for that "some day" when I will have more time on my hands than money.

Week 3: #7 Photo Editing Tools

I played around with the Pixer editor. All of the editing tools were not available. I did crop my picture though.

Week 3: #6 More Flickr Fun

I explored some fun things to do with Flickr. I created a trading card using one of my puppy-dog pictures. I think it would be fun to create trading cards for some of the children's favorite authors. Then trading cards would have biographical info and lists of their works. The children would select one author, read some of his/her material, then post their opinions about that author.

Week 3: #5 Discover Flickr

I have added pictures to my Flickr account of My Favorite People.........who just happen to be my pets. They are warm and cuddly, always glad to see me, and never argue back. I have to wonder what life.........NO! I'm not going there. I hope you enjoy my pix.
